We are Unterwegs in Schoneberg creating a fruitful corner with Redcurrant, dwarf apple and birch.Today was an epic Journey for these guys all the way from Schoneweide to Schoneberg courtesy of the excellent 265 bus. Got to love that 265 and the tolerance of Germans for being poked in the eye by small trees. (Low. Low tolerance. But some. At least some.)
I discovered you can pay 4.40€ each for WEEDS in the Spathesches Baumschule.Yes, WEEDS. I spent 34 euros on plants people once troweled out from their lawns and threw away. I don't regret it one bit. And I also discovered lizards. That's pretty great they are living in my garden, because they are getting a bit rare elsewhere.
I bought:
Tufted hair grass ( Deschampsia cespitosa)
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
Birds foot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus)
Self heal (Prunella vulgaris)
Basically the same plants growing on the road-side outside my garden are now in my garden, but more expensive.
Sometimes gardening can be an act of healing, that's a cliche, I know, but I mean not just for yourself. Instead of inflicting my own desire for abundance on this sandy soil I am learning to give it something- these low growing wild plants will stick the sand together and hopefully make a small patch of habitat for bees, butterflies and of course lizards.
Well, if life gives you lizards...make more lizards?
Excellent!
